(but first) CHEERS TO 2017!

I had no shame in saying I just wanted to see 2016 die because of the punches we all had to endure. Now that it finally happened, I cannot help but give a content sigh while feeling giddy for the new year. The giddiness was hard to control, especially when we were celebrating the new year in the biggest cruise ship in the world, the MS Oasis of the Seas. I spaced out to take it all in and realized that the whole trip gave me hints on how I could live 2017.

Hint 1: Broaden your perspective

In just 8 days, we have traveled to 4 different countries in the East Caribbean- St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, and Haiti, and in that short span of time, I have created several notes on my phone in an effort to keep track of everything I have learned about these places and their extraordinary people. In the Socratic way of thinking, this nerd got even more excited because she has yet to (travel and) learn more.

Hint 2: Make things happen

The cruise was an 8-day me-time and "People don't care," was perhaps the best articulation I could give of the cruise's vibe. Everyone was just there to relax and have fun so no one really gave a damn about what others did or how others looked. This silent encouragement helped people to step out of their comfort zones and just make things happen. The whole feel enabled people to step out from the shade and into the sun, remove cover-ups and flaunt two-piece swimsuits, get out of the chair and on to the dance floor, without having to wear a brown paper bag on their head with the word "shame" on it (insert inverted smile emoji).

Hint 3: SLAY

We never got bored on the ship because of the number of shows and attractions to attend to- an ice-skating rink, a carousel, surf simulators, a zip line, rock-climbing walls, a basketball court, a miniature golf area, swimming pools, and Jacuzzis! Not to mention the unlimited soft-serve ice cream and pizza serving 'til the devil's hour! From start to finish, Royal Caribbean International slayed every aspect of our trip, from the ship itself to the outstanding service of the staff and crew members. You can't help but feel inspired to slay things as well.

After suffocating under a large pile of digital pictures, making this and the other trips we took long overdue... Ta-daaa, behold the Oasis of the Seas!
